The Fête de la musique is being celebrated this year at the Petit Château de Sceaux! On Saturday, June 21, 2025, come and enjoy a musical show to the sound of the flute, from the Renaissance to the Grand Siècle.

The town of Sceaux, in the Hauts-de-Seine region of France, is well known for its estate and park, designed by André Le Nôtre. This vast green setting is home to a château-museum, as well as a small château that is of particular interest to us this June.

On Saturday June 21, 2025, the Petit Château de Sceaux will host the Fête de la Musique festivities. During this first evening of the summer, local residents and curious visitors can enjoy free musical entertainment, accessible to young and old alike.

The Fête de la musique is a popular celebration that has been held in France since 1982. Under the impetus of Jack Lang, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, the event gradually gained momentum. Musicians take advantage of the occasion to make themselves known to the general public, and music lovers enjoy an evening of national festivities to have fun and share their passion together.

In 2025, the Fête de la musique takes place on Saturday June 21. In towns all over France, including Sceaux, a host of concerts await you. But you don't have to go far to enjoy the entertainment: the little château has enough to thrill you for part of the evening!

To the sound of the flute, from the Renaissance to the Grand Siècle

    -----------------------------------------------------

    ### Concert with commentary on Baroque music

At the invitation of the Musée du Grand Siècle, Valérie Balssa and Jacques-Antoine Bresch will introduce you to the evolution of the early transverse flute, from the six-hole flute inherited from the Renaissance and still played for most of the 17th century, to the appearance of the single-key conical flute, a doubtless French invention that caused a sensation at the court of Versailles around 1680. You'll hear the first duets written for the instrument by Michel de La Barre, as well as pieces by Hotteterre on three-part flutes signed with his name. The journey ends around 1720 with Couperin on four-part flutes, characteristic of early 18th-century instruments.

An original and memorable evening for the whole family to enjoy at the Pavillon de préfiguration du musée du grand siècle in the Petit Château de Sceaux! Have a wonderful fête de la musique in Sceaux.
