There's one of those events that smacks of the return of fine weather. In fact, the spring cultural season is full of great events, including the Nuit des Musées and the NuitBlanche. One of these events, Les Rendez-Vous aux Jardins, invites us to take full advantage of culture in the great outdoors. The idea is simple: to celebrate our botanical heritage. Over the course of a weekend, a wide range of events will take place in gardens and parks, both private and public, sometimes in the heart of historic castles, fascinating museums or even unusual spots. With guided tours, workshops, concerts, exceptional openings and events of all kinds, young and old alike can enjoy this open-air concept that combines culture and nature.

The next edition of Rendez-Vous aux Jardins is scheduled for the weekend of June 6-8, 2025. In Seine-et-Marne, a superb museum will be on hand for the occasion: the Musée de la Préhistoire de Nemours. The museum traces the origins of human history in the Île-de-France region, with a permanent collection for young and old alike. So what does this museum have in store for the Rendez-Vous aux Jardins 2025? We tell you all about it.
The museum is set in a picturesque undergrowth of pine, oak, birch, hornbeam, hazel, acacia and other tree species, amidst sandstone chaos. In the minds of prehistorians of the time, this natural site, which is a southern extension of the Fontainebleau forest, evokes the landscapes of late prehistory.
Roland Simounet's first priority was to integrate the building into the forest. To achieve this, he took advantage of the natural slope of the land and used rough-cast concrete, whose texture and color are reminiscent of the park's sandstone. In this way, he succeeded in creating continuity between the building and the site. Today, the patinated concrete blends with the surrounding vegetation and the park's thousand-year-old rocks.
The architecture also brings the forest into the museum: tree-lined patios extend the surrounding woodland, enabling a dialogue between indoor and outdoor wooded spaces. The play of transparencies opens up the visit to the outside world.
